Dementia Concern supports people living with Dementia and their carers to live as independently as possible by providing dementia care services and practical help.  We have been providing information and support services for people with dementia and their carers in the London Borough of Ealing since 1982.  

We are looking for Respite Support Workers to join our team providing support for clients in their own homes around the Borough, you will be joining a committed and diverse team that seeks to provide a supportive work environment for its staff and the best outcomes for its clients.  Training is provided and we have a great package of employee benefits.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST:


To provide high standard quality care whilst supporting people living with
dementia to enhance their skills and abilities through activities, support and companionship.
Supporting carers to access a respite break and promoting independence for those
people who live alone, providing stimulation and companionship for the client within
the engaged period.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:


The main tasks are to:


 Engage clients in activities within the home and community creating a fun and friendly atmosphere for each individual client.


 Visit people with dementia in their own homes as directed by the Service
Manager. The postholder will need to have a flexible and helpful
response to the varying support tasks requested by the Service Manager/s


 Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all aspects of work including client
records and conversations and maintain comprehensive records.


 Provide emotional and social support to the person with dementia and their main
carer and remain alert throughout the visit to the needs of the cared for person.

 Provide companionship and help the person with dementia take part in any
activities they want to do in a person-centred manner.


 The postholder will need to report back to the Service Manager/s
any concerns or changes to the care plan or if the needs of the client change.
 Undertake tasks relevant to the post and attend regular team meetings,
supervision and training.

 Work in accordance with all the policies and procedures of the organisation
including Health and Safety, infection control, Confidentiality and Equal
Opportunities.

 Work at all times to promote equality, diversity and individual rights.
 Supporting the social life of the client by accompanying them
into the community, this could include: hospital appointments, local days out,
visiting places of worship and much more.


When required, to provide an waking night support service within the client’s home
giving the full range of personal and practical care needed so their main carer can get some sleep or to support the person living with dementia to feel safe during the night by providing companionship.

 Undertake as required any other duties compatible with the level and nature of
the post and/or reasonably requested by the Service Manager or Co-ordinator.
