Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing the amazing team of runners taking on the 2024 London Marathon for Dementia Concern

Here's Isobel!

Isobel's Story

I am running the London Marathon in 2024 and I'm fundraising for Dementia Concern.

In 2017 my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and watching her decline has been difficult for all of my family.

My grandma and I have always been really close, before she began living with dementia we would often go on theatre trips together and I feel very lucky for the time that I got to spend with her. She is a very important person in my life and that is why I am running the London Marathon for my Grandma, Anne Pharoah

My running story began when I won the egg and spoon race aged 5. I started competing in cross country races when I was 8 yrs old and joined the athletics club whilst at uni, continuing my love of cross country.

Unfortunately, in 2020 I began suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), I had months where I was unable to leave the house due to the fatigue. Whilst suffering from CFS I was unsure if I would ever recover, and didn't know if I would be able to go for a run again.

In April 2022 I was able to start running again and haven't stopped since! I had times where I didn't think I would be able to run 5km again so to have the opportunity to run the London marathon means the world to me.

Dementia Concern supports people with dementia and their carers by providing community support workers, advisers and link workers. They also organise social clubs for people with dementia to socialise in a safe environment whilst providing respite for carers.

My aim is to raise as many pounds as possible for this invaluable cause. Any donation will be hugely appreciated, thank you so much.
