Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing the amazing team of runners taking on the 2024 London Marathon for Dementia Concern

Here's Lucy!

Lucy's Story

My Grandma Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in April 2017 and sadly passed away May 2022.

My grandma was such an incredibly strong woman. Her love for her grandchildren felt different than any we’ve ever experienced. It exceeded the meaning of unconditional love and she made sure that we knew that.

She was so giving, so intelligent and so hard working. I was so fascinated by her stories of growing up. From being evacuated to Windsor, to working in the fashion industry on Oxford Street. I loved hearing how the world used to be and the experiences she went through.

With her Alzheimer’s diagnosis we were very lucky that it never affected her memory of us. One thing she was always certain of until the very end, was her adoration and the names of all her family. I am running for my Grandma Ruth who I miss deeply. I am also running for those who have lost their loved ones to Dementia.

Dementia Concern are committed to supporting people with dementia and their carers to live as independently as possible

Thank you so much for your support.
